FOR a person who says the internet is the best media for discussing the EU finances (letters 29 Nov) David Harrison certainly knows how to gabble on within these columns.

If he is so sure of the benefits of the EU what does he imagine the reason might be that we are denied a referendum on the subject?

We, of course, are fully aware that the coalition government are running scared that the outcome would not be to their advantage.

Perhaps David Harrison, seeing as he harps on about the benefits to the New Forest, and the generosity of the gift of our own cash towards its upkeep, would be honest enough to admit to any benefit mass immigration is likely to have on the British infrastructure and/or wild places.

He obviously reads the stories of foreigners poaching our fresh river stocks (and eating our swans), so what does he think about this side of our so wonderful EU?

Turn a blind eye if you will and talk only of these wonderful gifts of some of our cash back, turn a blind eye to our gridlocked road system, with pay-lanes on the way and rising costs in fuel.

Turn a blind eye to the soaring cost of living and the real cash going to the bailing out of our poor dear friendly neighbours in mainland Europe.

Think only of the cash flow to political parties and the greater empire that beckons in Europe, never mind the people, they don’t count, never mind the fact we are heading for another recession.

Of course David, you are quite entitled to your opinion and so am I, that is democracy, another think that is sadly lacking in this country today.

So keep writing of the wonders of the EU, it will give others the urge to answer with the truth.

A GABRIEL, Hythe.
