I WAS very sad to hear of the tragic death of Mavis Hardy from Fordingbridge.
I was very fond of her as I knew her from the 1960s when I worked at the Happy Cheese Restaurant at Ashurst.
I think Mavis used to have a hairdressing salon in Totton called Georgina’s. The restaurant was privately owned in those days and Mavis used to come there with her friend Ron Longman who was a BBC cameraman and also owned The Pilgrim Inn at Marchwood.
When I took a job as a barman there in 1991, Mavis always used to come there once a week to have lunch with one of Ron’s sisters. We always had a laugh and shared a joke sometimes. She was a lovely person and always had a smile for people she knew.
Rest In Peace Mavis.
