AT last my Uncle Harold who died in action in Italy October 1944, and who I never met, is being honoured.
Southampton City Council is honouring all who were killed in the two world wars, in between and after, on new memorial plaques, but Uncle Harold’s name did not appear?
So with a telephone call to the Civic Centre I found we were not alone.
They put myself, my sisters, Christine and Linda, brother Michael and friend Martin in contact with Andy Russell who works at the Archaeology Department at 93 French Street, Southampton, SO14 2DY.
And the omission is being rectified after we supplied the information needed to get his name added to the plaques.
So if you think you have a relative who you think should be included you have six months to submit the information to Andy Russell and in about a year’s time their name will be added to the list which honours all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedom and safety of the life we enjoy today.
Remembered, but never forgotten Uncle.
