LAST month, whilst out walking in Southampton, I was caught out by the temperamental weather so I decided to jump on to a Bluestar bus to finish my journey. I boarded the bus at Foys Corner, Shirley, to travel the 500m to Shirley Police Station and I was horrified to discover a charge of £1.60 for this small trip up the road.
I would be most interested to know how they justify such a cost for such a short journey.
It seems to me that if we are to get people out of their cars and on to public transport then charging such astronomical prices isn’t actually the answer. And with the scientific community constantly reminding us that the earth has warmed in the last century, surely they should be promoting shorter and cheaper journeys, thereby encouraging people out of their cars and on to their buses?
